How Runway Music Looks at Paris Fashion Week

This season’s Paris Fashion Week were one of the most-anticipated ever, due to the “personnel changes” among those big names. No matter if you liked the shows or not, there always one type of runway songs you would love.

70s Disco

Elie Saab | Spring Summer 2017, Paris

Vertigo/ Relight My Fire, Dan Hartman

Different from the elegance and nobleness in the former collections, this season’s Elie Saab adds some rebellion. The 1979 pop combines with the bell- bottom, fringe, gold color and gleaming stage, bringing us back to the age when our parents danced in the Disco.

Classical Orchestra

Jacquemus | Spring Summer 2017, Paris

Jean De Florette, The City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra

Along with the tension, Jacquemus’s exaggerated triangular silhouette, sombrero cordobés hat, and gigot sleeves come up on stage. His fun, decontructive idea shows in his theatrical clothes, with the music performed by The City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. It’s narrative. It’s visual. It’s doomed to be a successful Spanish opera.

Futuristic Techno

Loewe | Spring Summer 2017, Paris

Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase, Karen Gwyer

“Pristine and Future” seems to be the concept J.W.Anderson is playing around with this season for Loewe. Yet there is a conceptual video, produced by Magali Reus, called “Offshore.” Though we don’t know the exact intention, the video, mixed with the futuristic techno music, exhibits a contrast, just like his new design experienmental: a combination of ruffles and leather.

Electro House

Acne Studios | Spring Summer 2017, Paris

M-Power, Mukael Manvelyan

Acne Studio took the inspiration from refugees this season. Mikael Manvelyan is a composer and multi-instrumentalist. His diverse and brisk beats make audiences focus on rugs, ginger yellow, and geometric national motif, instead of delivering a direct political statement on the runway.

Soul/ Environmental

Dior, Spring Summer 2017, Paris

Under The Sun, Mark Pritchard

There’s no doubt that Maria Grazia Chiuri’s first collection for Christian Dior would become one of the most controversial. No matter what the comments would be, Chiuri selected this Ambient Electronic song as the background music. Already suggested in her attitude: “There is a remedy/ or there is none/ If there be one/ try and find it/ If there be none/ never mind it.”
